Marketing experts say Walmart should fear Dollar General's popularity with low income shoppers.
Marketing platform InMarket found that individuals from low-income groups were more likely to shop at Family Dollar and Dollar General than at Walmart. Family Dollar, which is owned by Dollar Tree, was the retailer that shoppers from low-income groups were most likely to visit, followed by Dollar General, Walmart, Dollar Tree, and Five Below, consecutively.
Individuals in this study considered low income made between $0-$44,000 a year per household.
Do you think the popularity of Dollar General's digital coupons is the appeal to low income shoppers? Or is is solely the location of the Dollar General & Family Dollar stores?
Dollar General currently has 16,000 + stores while Walmart has under 5,000.
